The leadership of the kiai in the pesantren is ‎not limited to the spiritual aspect, but also affects the social welfare of the surrounding ‎community. Therefore, it is important to explore the application of utilitarianism principles in ‎the kiai's leadership to improve the well-being of the community. This study aims to analyze ‎the role of kiai leadership in NU pesantren in Lampung and how the principles of ‎utilitarianism are applied in their leadership. The research method used is a qualitative ‎approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with ‎kiais, pesantren administrators, and santri, as well as observations of the kiai's leadership ‎practices in the pesantren. The results show that the application of utilitarianism principles ‎in kiai leadership has proven to provide greater social benefits, both in education, economic ‎empowerment, and social policies that prioritize the common welfare. This study concludes ‎that kiai leadership based on utilitarianism principles can create a positive impact on the ‎pesantren community and its surroundings. Furthermore, these findings contribute to the ‎development of a leadership model based on social values and the well-being of the ‎community, which can be applied in other pesantren across Indonesia‎.
2025-04-26T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Agus Munawar, Tulus Suryanto, Syafrimen Syafril, Koderi Koderi https://ejournal.stitahlussunnah.ac.id/index.php/JIE/article/view/304 Enhancing Islamic Education Adaptability through Classical Management in the Digital Era 2025-07-17T16:20:00+07:00 Saiful Bahri saifulbahri@radenintan.ac.id Irwansyah Irwansyah saifulbahri@radenintan.ac.id Subandi Subandi saifulbahri@radenintan.ac.id Deden Makbuloh saifulbahri@radenintan.ac.id
This study investigates the implementation of Lewin’s Change Management Model in managing institutional transformation at Pondok Pesantren Diniyah Putri Lampung, a faith-based Islamic educational institution navigating digital era challenges. Employing a qualitative case study approach, the research collected data through interviews, observations, document analysis, and teacher surveys to explore how the unfreezing, moving, and refreezing phases were adapted within the pesantren’s Islamic value system. The findings reveal that change was initiated through reflective awareness and spiritual framing, presenting digital transformation as a form of tajdid (renewal) rooted in religious duty. Strategic actions in the moving phase included teacher training, e-learning integration, and moral validation of digital content, while the refreezing stage saw institutionalization through updated policies, mentoring networks, and embedding Qur’anic values in daily digital practices. The study demonstrates that Lewin’s model can be effectively contextualized in Islamic settings through value-based leadership and culturally grounded strategies. It concludes that sustainable change in pesantren requires moral legitimacy, participatory engagement, and alignment between innovation and tradition. These findings contribute to broader theoretical discourse on managing educational change in faith-based environments and offer practical recommendations for Islamic educational leaders seeking modernization without compromising their spiritual identity.
2025-04-26T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Saiful Bahri, Irwansyah Irwansyah, Subandi Subandi, Deden Makbuloh https://ejournal.stitahlussunnah.ac.id/index.php/JIE/article/view/305 Feminist Interpretation of Qur'an Surah al-Nisa' verse 34: An Educational Study on Gender Relations, Structural Violence and the Protection of Women's Rights 2025-07-17T16:42:25+07:00 Muhammad Sururi Alfajri Wannahar Siregar muhammad0441243002@uinsu.ac.id Achyar Zein muhammad0441243002@uinsu.ac.id Rahayu Fuji Astuti muhammad0441243002@uinsu.ac.id
Issues of gender inequality and violence against women remain significant challenges across various societal strata, even within communities that strongly uphold religious values. This research critically re-examines Surah al-Nisa’ verse 34 through the lens of feminist tafsir (exegesis). Its aim is to deconstruct imbalanced gender relations and analyze their implications for structural violence experienced by women in Muslim societies. This particular verse is often used as a theological justification for male dominance over women in domestic and social spheres, thereby potentially perpetuating gender-based inequality and violence. The study employs feminist gender hermeneutics, utilizing a critical approach to both the text and its context, along with an analysis of the socio-cultural constructions that inform traditional interpretations. This research emphasizes the importance of reading the text with a strong bias towards gender justice and the protection of women's rights, considering the verse's historical, linguistic, and social backgrounds. The findings indicate that traditional interpretations of this verse are often patriarchally biased, positioning men as absolute leaders and women as subordinates. However, through a feminist tafsir approach, the verse can be read as an invitation to foster harmony and reciprocal responsibility in marital relationships, rather than as a legitimization of violence or dominance. This study asserts the critical need for a reformation of Islamic exegetical paradigms towards greater gender justice to support the formation of social systems free from violence and discrimination against women. Such reinterpretation also contributes to progressive Islamic legal discourse that protects women's rights and encourages religious and educational institutions to adopt more critical and contextual approaches to religious texts.
2025-04-26T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Muhammad Sururi Alfajri Wannahar Siregar, Achyar Zein, Rahayu Fuji Astuti https://ejournal.stitahlussunnah.ac.id/index.php/JIE/article/view/306 Revitalizing the Role of “Bundo Kanduang” in Forging Radicalism and Extremism in Minangkabau 2025-07-17T22:20:49+07:00 Novia Yanti indriaanita87@gmail.com Afni Lindra indriaanita87@gmail.com Anita Indria indriaanita87@gmail.com Hanton Hanton indriaanita87@gmail.com
It is highly expected that Bundo Kanduang will return to its proper role in carrying out its duties.
